Sort Tasks in a Project

This feature is available to all users.

In MeisterTask, you can sort and reorder tasks to keep your project organized. You can apply sorting rules to an entire project (persistent view) or to a single section (one-time action).

Sort Tasks Across an Entire Project

Sorting the entire project stays active for you as you work and applies to newly created tasks. Use the Filters sidebar on the right side of your project to get started.

  1. Open your project.
  2. Click the Filters icon (funnel) in the top-right corner.
  3. In the Sort project section, choose your sorting rule.

Sort project via filters sidebar

Available sorting options:

  • Manual (Default)
  • Name (A–Z)
  • Assignee
  • Creation date
  • Last modified
  • Due date
  • Tags
  • Status
Share Your Sorting View

Project-wide sorting is user-specific, meaning your changes won't affect what your teammates see. To align your team, you can share your current view via a link. Simply click the Share button at the top of the Filters sidebar to copy a direct link to your sorted view.

About "Last Modified" Sorting

Sorting by Last modified tracks major changes like task descriptions or comments. To ensure a stable view, minor updates do not currently trigger a re-sort, including:

  • Adding/removing tags or attachments.
  • Changes to checklists or subtask relationships.
  • Updates to Timeline items.

Reorder Tasks Within a Single Section

If you only need to tidy up a specific column, you can sort a single section. Note: This is a one-time action and only affects the current task order.

  1. Hover over the section header.
  2. Click the ellipsis (...).
  3. Select Sort section and choose your criteria.

Sort tasks within a section

Please note:

Manual overrides: If you manually drag and drop a task, the automatic sorting for that section is disabled to respect your custom order.
