The MeisterTask app for ChatGPT is the recommended way to connect MeisterTask to ChatGPT. You install it directly from the ChatGPT app directory — there is no connector URL to paste and no API key to generate.
MeisterTask has its own app in the ChatGPT app directory. Once you install it and authorize your Meister account, you can work with your MeisterTask content directly from a ChatGPT or Codex conversation: find tasks, create projects, update task details, and read or edit notes.
This article explains how to install the app, what you can do with it, what the assistant can access, what admins need to enable in team-managed ChatGPT workspaces, and how to solve the most common connection problems.
You need a MeisterTask account and a ChatGPT account to use the app.
Install the MeisterTask app in ChatGPT
- Open ChatGPT and go to Plugins.
- Search for MeisterTask.
- Click Install Plugin.
- Authorize the app with your Meister account. You are redirected to a Meister sign-in page.
- Confirm the access request. The app is now connected and available in your ChatGPT conversations.
If you cannot find the MeisterTask app in the directory, apps are most likely switched off in your ChatGPT workspace. See Enable apps in a team-managed ChatGPT workspace below.
What can you do with MeisterTask in ChatGPT?
Once the app is connected, ChatGPT can work across your MeisterTask workspace using natural-language prompts.
Search tasks, projects and notes
Ask the assistant to find content instead of searching for it yourself, for example: find all open tasks assigned to you in a specific project, or locate a note by topic.
Create projects, sections, tasks and labels
Describe what you need and the assistant creates it in MeisterTask: a new project with sections, individual tasks, or labels.
Update task statuses, assignees and due dates
Change task details in conversation — move a task to another section, assign it to a team member, or set a due date.
Create, read and edit notes
The assistant can open your notes, summarize them, and write changes back into them. Please note the editing limitation described in Which notes can the assistant edit? below.
Batch-update multiple tasks or projects
You can update several tasks or projects with a single command, for example reassigning all open tasks of one team member to another.
AI can make mistakes
Double-check any changes the assistant makes to your Meister content, especially when you batch-update several tasks or projects at once.
What can the assistant access?
- The assistant only sees what the signed-in user can already see in MeisterTask. It cannot reach content that user has no access to.
- The assistant only acts when you instruct it through a prompt, and only within the permissions granted to the connected account.
- You can revoke access at any time by disconnecting the app in ChatGPT.
- Only one Meister account can be connected at a time.
Enable apps in a team-managed ChatGPT workspace
This section is for ChatGPT workspace admins. These settings are managed in ChatGPT, not in MeisterTask.
Whether users can install the MeisterTask app themselves depends on the ChatGPT plan:
- ChatGPT Business: apps are enabled by default. Users can install MeisterTask themselves.
- ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu: apps are disabled by default. An admin has to turn them on before anyone can install MeisterTask.
The app is missing from the directory
On ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu, users cannot find the MeisterTask app until an admin enables apps for the workspace. This is the most common reason the app does not appear in the directory.
To enable apps for your workspace:
- Open Workspace settings in ChatGPT.
- Go to Apps.
- Enable apps for the workspace.
Allow or restrict what the app can do
Admins can control which actions the MeisterTask app is allowed to perform: allow all actions, restrict the app to read-only, or define a custom set of actions.
Read-only apps cannot create or update content
If the MeisterTask app is restricted to read-only, search will still work, but creating and updating tasks, projects or notes will fail. This often looks like a bug, but it is a workspace setting. Ask your ChatGPT admin to allow all actions for the app.
Restrict the app to specific people
- Open Workspace settings > Apps.
- Open the menu for the MeisterTask app.
- Select User access and choose who may use the app.
Restrict the app by role
- Open Workspace settings > Permissions & roles.
- Go to Custom roles and select the role you want to adjust.
- Change the Connected data settings for that role.
For full details on these controls, see OpenAI's article on admin controls, security and compliance for apps.
Which notes can the assistant edit?
Notes with Discussions or linked tasks cannot be edited
The assistant can currently only edit notes that do not contain Discussions or linked MeisterTask tasks. Notes with Discussions or linked tasks can still be read, but not edited.
Does the app use my Meister AI prompt allowance?
No. The MeisterTask app for ChatGPT does not use the monthly prompt allowance included with Meister AI features. Usage limits and billing for the app are managed by ChatGPT.
The app also does not count toward the two-integration limit on the Basic plan.
When should you use the app instead of Meister AI?
- Use the MeisterTask app for ChatGPT when you want to work with your Meister content from inside ChatGPT.
- Use Meister AI for the AI features built into MeisterTask's projects and notes.
Get started faster with template skills
Meister provides pre-built workflows for common MeisterTask use cases that you can use as a starting point for your own prompts. You can find them in the Meister template skills repository.
Troubleshooting
The MeisterTask app does not appear in the directory
- On ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu, apps are disabled by default. Ask your ChatGPT admin to enable apps under Workspace settings > Apps.
- If apps are enabled, your admin may have limited the app to specific people or roles. Ask them to check User access for the app.
The installation fails or your account will not authorize
- Make sure you are signing in with the Meister account that has access to the projects you need.
- Complete the authorization in the same browser you started it in, and allow the redirect back to ChatGPT.
- Remove the app in ChatGPT, then install and authorize it again.
- Remember that only one Meister account can be connected at a time. Disconnect the current account before connecting a different one.
Search works, but creating or updating fails
Your ChatGPT admin has most likely restricted the app to read-only. Ask them to allow all actions for the MeisterTask app.
The assistant reports it cannot find your workspace or content
- Check that the app is still connected and authorized in ChatGPT.
- Check that you are connected with the correct Meister account. The assistant only sees what that account can see.
- If specific projects or notes are missing, make sure the connected account is a member of those projects.
The assistant cannot edit a note
Notes that contain Discussions or linked MeisterTask tasks can be read but not edited. Edit these notes directly in MeisterTask.
