You can use MeisterTask to export your project and personal data into portable file formats, including CSV files, JSON files and formats compatible with Harvest. Exported data files can be analyzed using other software or later imported into another MeisterTask account.
Export Project Data (CSV)
You can export your project data into a CSV file which can be viewed, edited and analyzed with a variety of different software tools, including Microsoft Excel. To export project data:
- Click the project name at the top of your project board.
- Select Export project from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Export button next to the CSV file format.
- In the next window, you'll be prompted to select which information to include in your export. Once you're finished, click Export.
- You'll receive a notification on the Dashboard when your exported file is ready. Click Download Now to download your data.
Opening a CSV Export in Excel
MeisterTask CSV exports are comma-delimited, which may make them incompatible the default settings of Microsoft Excel. When opening a CSV file in Excel, be sure select comma as the default delimiter/separator.

Export a Project Template (JSON)
Export your project data into a JSON file to create a project template which can be shared with other users and re-imported into MeisterTask. To export a project template:
- Click the project name at the top of your project board.
- Select Export project from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Export button next to the JSON file format.
- You'll receive a notification on the Dashboard when your exported file is ready. Click Download Now to download your data.

Please note that the export does not include attachments, assignees, comments, and time-tracking data, among other things. To learn more, click here.
Export Time Tracking Data
To Export data on your team members' tracked time:
- Click the project name at the top of your project board.
- Select Export time tracking from the drop-down menu.
- Click the download button next to the format in which you'd like to export your data.
Data on your team members' tracked time can be exported into two formats:
- A format compatible with Harvest
- A CSV Format compatible with Excel and other time trackers (available only to paid users)
Task Statuses
In the CSV format, a task's status (Completed, Open, Trashed, or Archived) is indicated by a number:
- 1: Open
- 2: Completed
- 8: Binned
- 16: Archived
Export Data from Reports
Data from your Reports can be exported as an excel document (.xls) or CSV file. To export a report:
- Generate the report you want to export.
- Click the report name at the top of your screen.
- Choose Export as .csv or Export as .xls.
- Click OK.
- You'll receive a notification on the Dashboard when your exported file is ready. Click Download Now to download your data.
Export Task Attachments
If a task contains 2 or more attachments, they can be exported and downloaded as a .zip file.
- Click the task which contains the desired attachments to open the task window.
- Click the small arrow next to the "Attachments" header.
- Click Download All.
- Select Done.
- You'll receive a notification on the Dashboard when your exported file is ready. Click Download Now to download your data.
Export Personal Data or Team Activity Data
You can export personal data or team activity data from the accounts dashboard.
- Click your user avatar in the top-right corner of the MeisterTask interface.
- Select Appearance to open the Preferences menu.
- Click Exports on the left sidebar.
- From here, you will have the option to execute two new types of data exports:

Activity Export (available for team admins only):
Export data on all active projects within a team (both shared and private) into a single CSV file. This export option can be useful for large teams who need an overview of all active projects.

Personal Data Export:
Export your Personal Data to a single .zip file. This includes all projects of which you are a member and all attachments which have been added to your projects.

Access your Exported Data
You can access all of your exported data from the Preferences menu. To access exported data:
- Click your user avatar in the top-right corner of the MeisterTask dashboard.
- Select Appearance to open the Preferences menu.
- Click Exports on the left sidebar.

Scroll down to see your:
- Activity Exports
- Personal Data Exports
- Project Exports
- Task Attachments Exports
- Time Tracking Exports
Exports are available to be downloaded for one week. After that, you'll need to export them again.
What's the difference between a CSV and JSON export?
Project data can be exported into two file formats: CSV and JSON.
- A CSV file can be opened and edited using a variety of software tools, including Microsoft Excel. A CSV file is most useful for viewing, editing and analyzing your project data.
- A JSON file is most useful for saving project templates, which can be shared with other users and re-imported into MeisterTask.
CSV Files
CSV files can be opened and edited with a variety of software tools, including Microsoft Excel. An exported CSV file is displayed below:
Note that the CSV file contains the following data:
- Task ID
- Task name
- Task description/notes
- The date and time a task was created
- Task due dates
- Task Assignee
- Tags
- Custom fields
- Checklists
- Comments
- Task status (open, completed, binned or archived)
Task Statuses

JSON Files
Export to a JSON file to save a project template which can be shared with other users and re-imported into MeisterTask. The following project information is stored in a JSON file:
- Project name
- Task Name
- Due Dates
- Tags
- Checklists
- Timeline scheduling information
- Sections: Descriptions, colors, icons and task limits
- Custom fields
- Tags
- Pre-defined checklists
The following project information is not included in a JSON export:
- Task assignees
- Automations
- Task dependencies and relations
- Attachments
- Activity log, including comments
- Tracked time
- Trashed or archived tasks
