Use Slack with MeisterTask

This feature is available to Pro and Business users.
The integration can be set up without approval from team admins.


Use MeisterTask's all-new integration for Slack to streamline your team's communication and turn Slack conversations into actionable tasks.

After a quick set up, you can use the integration to get daily updates on upcoming tasks, receive your MeisterTask Notifications in Slack, and sync project notifications with a Slack channel.

Set Up the Integration for Slack

Important

Your MeisterTask account can only be linked to one Slack workspace.

Step 1: Initial Setup

  1. Click your user avatar in the top-right corner of the MeisterTask interface.
  2. Select Preferences from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Integrations in the left sidebar.
  4. Click the Slack icon.

  5. Click Configure Slack Notifications. 
  6. Enter your team's Slack URL and select Allow to grant MeisterTask access to your Slack workspace.
  7. In the next window, click Open Slack to open your Slack workspace.

Step 2: Customize your Options

Once you've successfully installed the integration, you can immediately personalize which MeisterTask notifications you'd like to receive in Slack:

 

  1. In Slack, select the MeisterTask channel.
  2. Read the welcome message and select whether you'd like to receive your personal MeisterTask notifications in Slack or receive a daily task summary.

  3. Once you've selected your options, you'll receive a summary of all the ways you can use the integration. Try them out yourself or read on for more details!

Type /mt into any Slack channel to view this list again.


Receive Daily Task Summaries in Slack

Subscribe to the daily task summary to receive a daily rundown of the vital tasks you need to be focusing on. The daily summary arrives at 7.30 AM every workday and includes all tasks assigned to you that are overdue or due within the next few days.

To subscribe to the daily task summary:

 

  1. Open MeisterTask.
  2. Click on your user avatar in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Preferences from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Notifications on the left sidebar.
  5. Scroll down to Slack Notifications.
  6. Select Slack Daily Summary.

Tip

You can also subscribe to the daily task summary from Slack by typing /mt settings in any Slack channel.


Receive MeisterTask Notifications in Slack

Enable personal notifications to receive your MeisterTask notifications in Slack.

Your notifications will appear in the MeisterTask channel in Slack under "Apps". Click Open Task to open the task in MeisterTask, or select Mark as read to dismiss the notification in both Slack and MeisterTask.

To set up personal notifications:

 

  1. Open MeisterTask.
  2. Click on your user avatar in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Preferences from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Notifications on the left sidebar.
  5. Scroll down to the "Slack Notifications" section.
  6. Select All my Personal Notifications.

Tip

You can also subscribe to your personal MeisterTask notifications from Slack by typing /mt settings in any Slack channel.


Create Tasks in Slack

Create new tasks in Slack or convert Slack messages into actionable tasks.

To create a new task in Slack:

 

  1. Open a channel or direct message in Slack.
  2. Type /mt create and press ENTER.
  3. In the pop-up window, select a project and section for your task, then give your task a name and description.
  4. Click Create. Your new task will be immediately created in MeisterTask.

To convert a Slack message into a task:

 

  1. Hover over the message you'd like to convert and click the ellipsis (...) which appears.
  2. Click Create a task.
  3. Fill in the details of your new task - the Slack message will become the task description.
  4. Click Create. Your new task will be immediately created in MeisterTask.

Comment on Tasks in Slack

To add comments to tasks from Slack:

 

  1. Open a channel or direct message in Slack.
  2. Type /mt comment and press ENTER.
  3. Select a task in the pop-up window. You must type at least three characters for tasks to be suggested.
  4. Type your comment and click Comment

Convert Slack Messages into Comments

To convert Slack messages to task comments, hover your mouse over any Slack message and click the ellipsis (...), then select Comment a task from the drop-down menu.


Link a MeisterTask Project to a Slack Channel

You must have Content Manager privileges in a project in order to link it with a Slack channel.

You can link a MeisterTask project with a Slack channel to receive project notifications in Slack.

Choose to receive notifications about all project activity or only task activity (e.g. created, completed, archived, or deleted tasks).

Important!

Before connecting a MeisterTask Project to a Slack Channel, you'll need to Invite MeisterTask to the channel you'd like to connect. To do this, type @MeisterTask into the channel, press ENTER and click Invite Them. 

To set up project notifications in a Slack channel:

 

  1. Open the channel you'd like to sync.
  2. Invite @MeisterTask to the channel.
  3. Type /mt projects.
  4. In the pop-up window, choose the project and sections you'd like to receive notifications from. You can also define which type of activity you'd like to be notified of.
  5. Click Set up to finish. You will now receive notifications about the project (or section) in this Slack channel.

Disconnect

To disconnect a project from a Slack channel, simply type /mt projects and click Disconnect.

View Your Slack-MeisterTask Connections

Type /mt projects in any Slack channel to view all projects linked to that channel.

Type /mt projects in the MeisterTask App in Slack to see all project connections you've set up in all channels.
