Changes to the Basic plan: shared projects count toward the 3-project limit

These changes only affect teams on a MeisterTask Basic plan.

What is changing?

From November 23, 2026, the following will apply to teams on a free MeisterTask Basic plan:

  • Projects shared with your team from other accounts count toward your 3-project limit, alongside your team's own projects.
  • This includes projects shared with you by teams on a paid plan. Until now, only your team's own projects counted.
Where does this change apply?

This change has applied in Brazil since April 22, 2026. From November 23, 2026, it applies in all other countries.

What happens if your team is over the limit?

If your team has access to more than 3 projects, owned or shared:

  • You keep your role in your 3 oldest projects by creation date. These projects stay fully editable.
  • All other projects become view-only. They are greyed out in your project list.
  • Nothing is deleted. You can still open and search view-only projects.

When you open a view-only project, you'll see this banner: "Read only. Your team has exceeded the free project limit. Upgrade now".

What do you need to do?

If your team has access to more than 3 projects, you can do one of the following before November 23, 2026 to keep editing the projects that matter to you:

  1. Leave projects you no longer need. Learn how to leave a project.
  2. Join a paid team you work with. Ask the team to add you as a team member. Learn how users are added to a team.
  3. Upgrade. All paid plans include unlimited projects. See plans and pricing.

If your team has access to 3 projects or fewer, you don't need to take any action.

Does this change affect teams on a paid plan?

Nothing changes in your own account if your team is on a paid plan.

However, your Basic collaborators may lose edit access to the projects you share with them. You won't be notified when you share a project with a Basic user who is over the limit.

If you work with Basic users regularly, consider adding them to your team so they can keep editing your projects.

Why are we over the limit when I can only see 2 projects?

The limit applies to your whole Basic team, not to each user. A project shared with one teammate counts for the entire team, even if other team members can't see it.

Which of my projects stay editable?

Your 3 oldest projects by creation date stay editable, whether your team owns them or they were shared with you. You can see a project's creation date in Project Settings.

Will I lose any data?

No. Projects over the limit become view-only, and nothing is deleted. You can still open and search them.

I work with paying teams. Is that still possible?

Yes. Paid teams can still share projects with you and give you any project role. However, their projects now count toward your team's 3-project limit.

The limit applies when you open a project, not when you're invited. If your team is over the limit, you get view-only access to the shared project.

How do I get edit access back?

You can:

Does the limit apply during a free trial?

No. Free trials work like a paid plan, so the 3-project limit doesn't apply until your trial ends.
