Project Management Basics

These features are available to all users

Projects are your core workspaces in MeisterTask. You can think of each project as a virtual board where you can organize and visualize many tasks related to one specific objective, initiative, or larger goal. Projects are also the basis for sharing and collaborating with other users.

Take a look at the short tutorial video below, then read on to learn the basics of managing your next project in MeisterTask.

Plan and monitor team workload

MeisterTask provides additional tools to help Account Admins understand and manage their team’s workload across projects.

Team Overview widget

The Team Overview widget on Home gives Account Admins a real-time snapshot of their team’s workload, including task counts and task statuses for each team member.

Workload planner

The Workload planner in the Projects overview helps Account Admins plan and allocate work across multiple projects over time with a timeline-based view of team capacity.

Availability
  • Team Overview: Available on Business plans and above, accessible to Account Admins only
  • Workload planner: Available on the Enterprise plan only, accessible to Account Admins only

Explore Two Styles of Project Management

In MeisterTask, projects are divided into vertical columns called sections. How you set up these sections determines the style of project management used in your project.

The two main styles of project management used in MeisterTask are:

  • The Kanban method, in which tasks are moved from left to right as work progresses.
  • The Static Board method, in which tasks remain in a single section.

The Kanban Method

In a Kanban board, tasks typically start in the left-most section and then move through the board until they are marked as completed in the right-most section.

Kanban boards originated in the Japanese automotive industry and have been used since the late 1940s to visualize workflows.

Kanban helps you streamline processes and identify bottlenecks, making it easier to keep tasks moving efficiently.

Static Boards

In static boards, sections are used to organize tasks by type rather than workflow stage.

Tasks can be marked as completed or archived when finished.

Use tags and checklists to further organize your work.

Manage Project Sections

Projects are divided into vertical columns called sections.

By default, new projects include Open, In Progress, and Done. Rename sections by double-clicking the header or change their color using the menu.
